To further understand the challenges of the local farmers, we had privilege to meet Mr. N. Noormamode, current President of the Fairtrade cooperative, Century CCS and the secretary Mr. I. Inderjeet with a delegation team from Sudzucker – Multinational cooperation offering a wide range of sugar varieties used for baking, preserving, cooking or simply to sweeten foods and beverages. After being Fairtrade certified in 2015, Century CCS now regroups 98 small planters farming more than 10,000 tons of sugar cane (1,000 tons of sugar). The co-operative has its seat in Triolet and most of its members send their canes to the Terra mill. The Century CCS was the winner in the Sugar category.
